Revised School Day Schedule – June 22, 2016

I told the grade 11’s (TEJ3M) and 12’s (TEJ4M) that today would be their last day to work on their final projects which is in the electronics (arduino) unit (worth 30% of their final grade).  Two things need to be submitted for the final project:  1.) commented code; 2.) summative report.  I gave the students an example of the summative report (see below).  The project is to be submitted by the end of the day today.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  THE FINAL EXAM WILL BE ON TUE JUNE 28 FROM 9:00 AM TO 11:30 AM.  PLEASE BRING IN YOUR TEXTBOOK.  ALSO, STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN A FORMULA SHEET ON THE DAY OF THE EXAM TO USE.  STUDENTS MAY USE A NON-GRAPHICAL CALCULATOR FOR FINAL ASSESSMENTS BUT NO OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE PERMITTED.

I began the class today by letting the students know that I marked their both of their final culminating tasks (part 1 vectors & part 2 calculus) and had their marks calculated before the final exam.  I then gave the students these back so they could look them over (they are not allowed to take these assessments with them, they will be stored with their final exams when at the end of June).  We went over these on the digital projector and told the students they could review them again on the exam review day if they wished.  I then showed the students a website that I came across from another teacher that had a number of topics covered in calculus & vectors in a nice neat layout with clear pdf presentations.  I recommended the students look these over to help them with their review.  I also went over a few concepts as well before we were called down for the tornado drill, locker clean out and SAC assembly.

How to solder an LED to a resistor (I mentioned to the students that they can solder some of the components, with approval from me, if they would like to for their final projects.  Students are encouraged to watch this video showing how to solder an LED to a resistor.)

I began the class today by again reminding the students of their upcoming assessments (see above).  I told the students that I would be continuing exam review again today with specific focus on the calculus unit.  I also reminded the students that Mrs. Marray and myself would be taking requests for formulas for the exam which the students were to write on a chart paper hanging in room 231.  Students have until the end of today to make requests and then the paper will be taken down and Mrs. Marray and I will discuss what formulas we will use to make a formula sheet which the students will be allowed to use for the exam.

I gave the students 2 review worksheets for calculus last week (see the June 16 & June 17 blog postings) titled “MCV4U – Exam Review Worksheet Day 3 & 4”.  I told the students that they were to work on these questions, if they haven’t already done so, in class at their desks and then I would come around to help them.  We would then took these questions up together as a class.  Anything we didn’t take up in class I told the students I would post on today’s blog posting after our class.  I also reminded the students that I posted all of the test solutions for units 1 to 7.  If the students are finished both the worksheets for day 3 & 4 then I mentioned to them that I would assign review questions from the textbook for chapters 1 to 5 (see below).  Students are encouraged to email me if they have any questions from the homework ahead of time (abawa@office.ldcsb.on.ca).
