TEJ3M/TEJ4M – February 17, 2016

I began the class today by showing the students a short video about the EHF (Environmental Handling Fee) in Canada.  Here is a link to the video below:

Environmential Handling Fees (EHF)

Environmental Handling Fees Breakdown by Province (I showed this to the students after the video.)

After showing the students the video, I talked to the students about possibly having an e-waste drive at our school.  I told them of a company that I know of in Cambridge ON called “Greentec” which specializes in recycling e-waste.  I then asked the students for various ideas so we could try to implement something like this at our school.  Here is the link to Greentec’s website below:

I then told the students that we would be doing a short activity together as a class.  I gave them a handout titled “TEJ3M & TEJ4M – E-waste Worksheet” and asked the students to quietly write down some ideas on their papers at their desks.  Once the students had a chance to write something, I then had the students put their answers up on the white board.

Once we finished the activity, I gave the students a little research activity to work on.  The handout I gave them was titled “TEJ3M & TEJ4M – E-waste Reasearch Activity”.  Students were to try to find names, numbers and addresses of local places where various things could be recycled.

Once the students were finished the research activity, I wanted them to continue to work on their design for their pencil sharpener mouse.  I gave the students the option of either sketching and then colouring the blank templates I gave them yesterday, or they could use Adobe Photoshop if they had some familiarity with the program to complete their design.  Once the students are completely finished (sketched and coloured), then they are to show me before moving on to the next stage (I should have the mice for the students to work on in class tomorrow).

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.
