MCV4U – February 29, 2016

PLEASE NOTE:  THE STUDENTS HAVE GRAD ASSEMBLY DURING PERIOD 5 TOMORROW.  THEY WILL BE CALLED DOWN AT AROUND 2:15 PM.  THIS MEANS WE WILL HAVE A SHORTENED PERIOD TOMORROW BECAUSE OF THE ASSEMBLY.

I began the class today by telling the students that I would be doing a lesson today on the quotient rule.  I told the students that before doing the quotient rule, I would first review with them the product rule which we did last class (Fri Feb 26).  I then gave the students a handout titled “MCV4U – The Quotient Rule”.  I told the students that there were some things from the handout I would just be going over and that they would not have to fill anything in (I suggested they highlight important concepts).  For the examples that required students to fill things in, I put it up on the digital projector and then I went over the examples using the projector and the black board.  Because the product rule review activity at the start of class took extra long, we were only able to do examples 1 & 2 from the lesson.  We will do example 3 at the start of tomorrow’s class.  The homework I assigned for today (Do Pg 94 #6 to 8, 17, 21 and Pg 129 #1 to 5).  Students are encouraged to email me if they have any questions from the homework ahead of time (abawa@office.ldcsb.on.ca).

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.

MCV4U – The Quotient Rule (blank) (handout)

MCV4U – The Quotient Rule (filled-in) (We were able to do example 1 & 2 in class today.  The activity we started with ran a little long and we did not get to example 3.  We will do example 3 at the start of tomorrow’s class.)

Product Rule Worksheet with answers (I did a few questions from this worksheet with the students at the start of class to help them review the product rule.  The students can try the remainder of the questions from this page for extra practice.)

Student Solutions from the Product Rule Worksheet with answers (Here are a few of the answers that students had sent to me during the activity at the start of class.)
