TEJ3M/TEJ4M – April 1, 2016

The grade 11’s (TEJ3M) will continue to work on their lego minstorm robots.  The students are to write the code for “The First Track” using the program called “Bricx Command Centre”.  I made a track for the students using tape and told the students that I would like them code for this track.  The students are to go around this track 2 times using the code they have learned from the pdf “Tutorial Part 1”.  Once the students have finished coding this track I will take a video of a successful run of the track.  Once the students have finished track one, they are to take their robot apart (or modify their first bot) and build the “explorer bot” using the step by step instructions posted below.  Once the students are finished this, then they are to come see me for the next task.  Students will need to read through the pdf  files “Tutorial Part 2” and “Tutorial Part 3” in order to prepare for the next activity.

The grade 12’s (TEJ4M) will be doing a star network topology using a switch to complete this.  I told the grade 12’s that they will be connecting all of the computers (depending on how many students are in class) together using cross over cables and an 8 port network switch.  Then each students is to submit a file to the shared folder so every person connected to the network can access it.  Once the students have done this, they can connect to one of the 2 LAN party games I have given them (Either Pedal Power or Enemy Territory).  If the students finish early, they can continue with the activity I assigned them yesterday which is doing research on how to build a fish tank computer using mineral oil (see the Mar 31 blog posting for further details).

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.

Grade 11 (TEJ3M):

Mar 21 – TEJ3M – Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 1 (this is the coding examples for the “Bricx Command Centre” software – The TEJ3M students only.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 2 (this is the coding examples for the “Bricx Command Centre” software – The TEJ3M students only)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 3 (this is the coding examples for the “Bricx Command Centre” software – The TEJ3M students only)

Mar 21 – TEJ3M – Express Bot Driving Base – Step By Step (instructions for building their first robot – the TEJ3M students only.)

Mar 30 – TEJ3M – Explorer – Step By Step (instructions for building their second robot – the TEJ3M students only.)

First Track for Lego Mindstorm Robotics (The students have to code their bot so it goes around this track 1 time.  Once they have done this, they they have to do it 2 times continuously.  I will take video of this for a completion mark – TEJ3M students only)

Grade 12 (TEJ4M):
