TEJ3M/TEJ4M – April 6, 2016

The grade 11’s (TEJ3M) will continue to work on their lego minstorm robots.  The students are to take their first robot (express bot) apart or modify it and build the “explorer bot” using the step by step instructions posted below.  The explorer bot should consist of 3 sensors: light sensor, touch sensor and proximity sensor.  The students will then need to read through the pdf  files “Tutorial Part 2” and “Tutorial Part 3” in order to prepare for the next activity.  I have set up 3 areas for the students to test each of their sensors

The grade 12’s (TEJ4M) will be working on the research activity on how to build a fish tank computer using mineral oil.  The grade 12’s are to look up some websites and watch videos to find some research on how to do this project.  2 students in the grade 12 class have offered to bring in fish tanks so we might be able to make 2 fish tank computers (depends on the size of the tanks).  The students are to create Microsoft Word Document and are to list any resources they found.  They are to make point form notes about the specifics details to build a fish tank computer (E.g. how big is the fish tank, where to specific parts need to be placed, type of cooling needed…etc.).  I mentioned to the students that I will count this towards their culminating mark for this unit (Please note:  the grade 12 students will be working collaboratively to complete this project.)

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.
