The grade 11’s (TEJ3M) will continue to work on their lego minstorm robots. The students are to take their first robot (express bot) apart or modify it and build the “explorer bot” using the step by step instructions posted below. The explorer bot should consist of 3 sensors: light sensor, touch sensor and proximity sensor. The students will then need to read through the pdf files “Tutorial Part 2” and “Tutorial Part 3” in order to prepare for the next activity. I have set up 3 areas for the students to test each of their sensors. I will be taking videos of each test and will have the students submit a copy of their commented code to the hand in folder.
The grade 12’s (TEJ4M) will be working on with the breadboards & arduino boards today. I asked the students to to first start working with just the breadboard for the first task. The students were to create a blinking LED light using the following parts: a breadboard, a 555 timer chip, a capacitor and multiple wires. I provided the students with a link to the steps they would need to follow to creating this blinking LED light with the parts listed above. Once the students completed this, they were to access the pdf document titled “MEGA2560 Stater Kit Tutoral” and were to go to “Chapter 3: LED Blink” (this is page 12 of the document) and were to create a similar blinking light but now with the arduino board (the students did this last year but this is to help them recall some of the steps to connect to the arduino). I will take videos of the blinking LED for both the 555 timer and the ardunio.
