TEJ3M/TEJ4M – April 14, 2016

The grade 11’s (TEJ3M) will continue to work on their Lego minstorm robots again today.  The students should now have their explorer bot built which consists of 3 sensors: light sensor, touch sensor and proximity sensor.  The students will then need to read through the pdf  files “Tutorial Part 2” and “Tutorial Part 3” in order to prepare for the next activity.  I have set up 3 areas for the students to test each of their sensors.  I will be taking videos of each test and will have the students submit a copy of their commented code to the hand in folder.  Once the students have complete these 3 tests, I will then have them create code for their second and final track.  This will count as their culminating for this unit in Lego robotics.  I posted an image of second track below.

The grade 12’s (TEJ4M) will be working on with the breadboards & arduino boards again today.  The students were to access the pdf document titled “MEGA2560 Stater Kit Tutoral” and were to go to “Chapter 3: LED Blink” (this is page 12 of the document) and were to create a similar blinking light.  I will take a video of the blinking LED once the students have completed this.  Once the students are finished this, I asked them to look at the link below showing them how to connect a 7 segment display (looks like a number 8) to their breadboard.  The students were to have their 7 segment LED lit up and then I would come over to take a picture of this.  Once the students have done this then they are to go to the link below for the instructions on how to do a countdown using a 7 segment LED and an arduino.

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.

Grade 11 (TEJ3M):

Mar 21 – TEJ3M – Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 1 (this is the coding examples for the “Bricx Command Centre” software – The TEJ3M students only.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 2 (this is the coding examples for the “Bricx Command Centre” software – The TEJ3M students only)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 3 (this is the coding examples for the “Bricx Command Centre” software – The TEJ3M students only)

Mar 30 – TEJ3M – Explorer – Step By Step (instructions for building their second robot – the TEJ3M students only.)

Setup for light sensor, touch sensor & proximity sensor (I have set up 3 areas for the students to test their 3 sensors.  I will take a video of each test and have each group submit their commented code.)

Second Track Using all 3 sensors (culminating) (The students have to create code using all 3 sensors to complete this track.  They are to submit their commented code to the hand-in folder and I will take a video of a successful run.)

Grade 12 (TEJ4M):

Steps to create a blinking LED with a 555 timer (The students can click on this link to access the site with the steps to create a LED blinking light.)

MEGA2560 Stater Kit Tutoral (Once the students have completed the blinking LED with the 555 timer, then they can open this document and go to Chapter 3 on page 12 and create a blinking light using the arduino.)

7 Segment LED Configuration (The students can go to this link to help them connect their 7 segment LED to their breadboard.  I will take a picture once they have completed this.)

Arduino & 7 segment Display Countdown (Step by step instructions for doing a countdown using an arduino & a 7 segment LED display.)
