TEJ3M/TEJ4M – April 27, 2016

I told the grade 11’s (TEJ3M) that we would be doing a lesson today titled “Number Systems (Conversions).  I told the students that I would be showing them various conversions for decimal, binary, octal and hexadecimal.  This lesson went on for most of the period.  Once I was finished the lesson, I told the students to work on the following worksheets:  “Binary to Decimal (and vice versa)”, “Octal to Decimal (and Vice Versa)” and “Hex to Decimal (and vice versa)”.  Once the students have completed all of the worksheets listed above, then they are to complete the worksheet titled “Binary, Octal, Hexadecimal & Decimal Review Worksheet”

The grade 12’s (TEJ4M) are a race bot (dragster) which will be timed.  30 tiles have been measured in the hallway and marked off with tape.  The students will be give 3 chances to get their best time (I will time the students and take the best of 3 to be marked).

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.

Grade 11 (TEJ3M):

Apr 27 – TEJ3M Lesson – Number Systems (Conversions) (This is the lesson I did with the students on the white board today.)

Binary to Decimal (and vice versa) Worksheet (blank copy) – (The students are to do this worksheet first.)

Hex to Decimal (and vice versa) Worksheet (blank copy) – (blank copy) – (The students are to do this worksheet when they have finished the binary to decimal & vice versa worksheet.)

Octal to Decimal (and vice versa) Worksheet (blank copy) – (blank copy) – (The students are to do this worksheet when they have finished the binary to decimal & vice versa worksheet.)

Apr 27 – Binary, Octal, Decimal & Hexadecimal Conversion Table (I gave the students a copy of this table which gives them conversions up to 32 in decimal base 10.)

Binary, Octal, Hexadecimal & Decimal Review Worksheet (The students are to do this worksheet once they have finished the worksheets “Binary to Decimal (and vice versa)”, “Octal to Decimal (and Vice Versa)” and “Hex to Decimal (and vice versa)”.)

Grade 12 (TEJ4M):

Apr 25 – TEJ4M – Race Car-StepByStep (This the step by step instructions the students can use to help them get started with their race robot.)

Race Car Bot Times (example) (This is a sample of the robots my past students made and the times their got when they raced them.)

Various NXT step by step builds (There are various step by step instructions for building all kinds of different nxt robots.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 1 (Tutorial 1 for the nxc programming language.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 2 (Tutorial 2 for the nxc programming language.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 3 (Tutorial 1 for the nxc programming language.)

RobotC Curriculum (The students can go to this resource to help them review and learn some new concepts related to the coding language for the nxt robots.)

Gear Ratios Resource #1 (This resource will help the students learn about the various gear ratios when making their race bots.)
