TEJ3M/TEJ4M – May 6, 2016

I told the grade 11’s (TEJ3M) to work on the activity they had started towards the end of the period yesterday using the website Logic Lab (see the May 5 blog posting for further details).  I gave the students brief demonstration on the digital projector of what I wanted them to do.  Students have to do the following logic gates:  NAND, OR, NOR, XOR, XNOR & NOT (I already did AND in the example so students do not have to do it).  Once the students are finished, they are to save this as “Name_LogicGates.doc” and then hand it in to the hand-in folder.  Once the students were finished this activity they were to work on the worksheet titled “Logic Gates Worksheet Continued” for extra practice.  Once the students were finished this worksheet, then I gave them an assignment to do which is the cumulative assignment in the number systems & logic gates unit.

The grade 12’s (TEJ4M) are to make a race bot (dragster) which will be timed.  30 tiles have been measured in the hallway and marked off with tape.  The students will be give 3 chances to get their best time (I will time the students and take the best of 3 to be marked).  Once the students are completed this task, they are to take apart this robot and create new bot with 3 sensors (light, proximity & touch).  This new bot will have to complete the second task which is an obstacle course similar to the one they had to do last year for their final project (see picture of obstacle course below).  The students can use this same bot when we do “Battle-bots” which will be our third and final task in this unit.

Grade 11 (TEJ3M):

May 6 – Number Systems & Logic Assignment (This is the cumulative assignment in the number systems & logic gates unit.  This is to be completed and handed in.)

Logic Lab Website (The students are to go to this website in order to complete today’s activity.  The example on how the students are to complete this is listed below under the titled “Basic Logic Gates Using Logic Lab Example”.)

May 5 – Basic Logic Gates Using Logic Lab Example (I showed this example to the students so they new what the expectations were for today.)

May 4 – Logic Gates Worksheet (continued) (I gave the students that were finished everything this sheet to work on in class.)

Grade 12 (TEJ4M):

Race Car Bot Times (example) (This is a sample of the robots my past students made and the times their got when they raced them.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 1 (Tutorial 1 for the nxc programming language.)

Second Track Using all 3 sensors (The students are to create a robot using all 3 sensors and will then program it to go through this course.  The students can use this same robot for “Battle-bots”.)
