TEJ3M/TEJ4M – May 18, 2016

I told the grade 11’s (TEJ3M) that we would be continuing our work with the breadboard trainers again today.  The students have to first do the 3 introductory circuits before moving on to anything else.  The introductory circuits are: 1.) a series circuit; 2.) a parallel circuit; 3.) a series & parallel circuit.  Once the students do each of these circuits, they are to call me over to take a picture of their circuit.  Once the students have confirmed with me that they are finished all of the above circuits, then they can do the next to circuits with are:  1.) adding a butting; 2.) 3 LED’s & 3 different resistors.   I posted examples below as to how to do these activities.  I will take pictures of the students work once they finish.  If the students finish everything listed above then they can work on the 555 timer assignment listed below.  Once the students complete the 555 timer activity, I would like them to connect the 7 segment display to their breadboard (looks like a number 8).  If there are any students that finish absolutely everything listed above, then they can start working with the arduino board.  The students are to click on the document below titled “MEGA2560 Starter Kit Tutorial” and then do chapter 3 blinking light from it.

The grade 12’s (TEJ4M) are to complete the second task which is an obstacle course similar to the one they had to do last year for their final project (see picture of obstacle course below).  The students can use this same bot and just modify or add to it when we do “Battle-bots” which will be our third and final task in this unit.

Grade 11 (TEJ3M):

May 13 – Breadboard Example – Adding a Button (The students are to complete this once they have completed the series circuit, parallel circuit & series/parallel circuits.)

May 13 – Example with 3 LED’s and 3 Different Resistors (This is an example with 3 LED’s and 3 different resistors.  The students can use the resistance calculator listed below to help them calculate the resistance of each of the resistors they are using.)

May 13 – 555 Timer Assignment (Once the students have completed all of the assignments listed above, then they can work on this assignment.)

May 16 – 7 Segment LED Configuration (The students can go to this link to help them connect their 7 segment LED to their breadboard.  I will take a picture once they have completed this.)

LED’s and their Voltage, Current & Resistance (This link has some specifics about the LED’s that we are using with respect to voltage, current and resistance.)

Resistance Calculator (This link will help the students to calculate the various resistance for the resistors they will be using in class.)

May 16 – Arduinio Blinking Light (Chapter 3) Picture Example (I showed this to the students in class to help them set up their arduino board with the laptop and breadboard trainer)

Grade 12 (TEJ4M):

Various NXT step by step builds (There are various step by step instructions for building all kinds of different nxt robots.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 1 (Tutorial 1 for the nxc programming language.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 2 (Tutorial 2 for the nxc programming language.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 3 (Tutorial 1 for the nxc programming language.)

Second Track Using all 3 sensors (The students are to create a robot using all 3 sensors and will then program it to go through this course.  The students can use this same robot for “Battle-bots”.)
