TEJ3M/TEJ4M – May 31, 2016

I told the grade 11’s (TEJ3M) that they should now be starting to work with the arduino board now at this point.  The students are to click on the document below titled “MEGA2560 Starter Kit Tutorial” and then do “Chapter 3 Blink LED”, “Chapter 4 PWM”, “Chapter 5 Advertising LED”, “Chapter 6 Traffic Light”, “Chapter 7 Buzzer”, “Chapter 9 Poteniometer” and “Chapter 20 Servo Motor”.  Once the students have finished all of the above tutorials, then they can do the 7 segment LED countdown activity.  The links to the resources needed to complete this activity can be found below.  If the students are finished the above arduino tutorials and the 7 segment LED countdown, then they are to work on the arduino assignment titled “Nursery Rhyme – Baa Baa Black Sheep Assignment”.  A copy of the assignment can be found below.  Also, I will post 2 youtube videos below which are examples of what the students should be doing for the “Nursery Rhyme – Baa Baa Black Sheep Assignment”.  This will be the last tutorial/assignment for the unit.

I told the grade 12’s (TEJ4M) that they should be preparing for their third and final task for the lego mindstorm robots which is “battlebots”.  I had talked to the students a few weeks ago about the expectations for this task and then I posted some resources for the students on the blog (see below).  I students should be ready to participate in “battlebots” by Wed June 1.  Those students not ready by Wed June 1 will be disqualified from the task and will receive an incomplete grade.

Below you will find a copies of the handouts/worksheets that were distributed/assigned in today’s class.

Grade 11 (TEJ3M):

MEGA2560 Starter Kit Tutorial (This document contains the tutorials the students will be working on with the arduino board.)

http://arduino.cc/en/main/software (This is the link to the site where you can download the arduino software and use for home.  The version we are using at school is version 1.0.6.)

Operating Two Servos at Once (I showed the students this link today which should help them with Chapter 20 Servo Motor.)

7 Segment LED Configuration (The students can go to this link to help them connect their 7 segment LED to their breadboard.  I will take a picture once they have completed this.)

Arduino & 7 segment Display Countdown (Step by step instructions for doing a countdown using an arduino & a 7 segment LED display.)

Nursery Rhyme – Baa Baa Black Sheep Assignment (The students are to work on this once they have completed all of the arduino tutorials and the 7 segment LED display countdown.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9h0cmzGc3g (This is an example the students should be using to help make their own nursery rhyme on their arduino board)

Grade 12 (TEJ4M):

Various NXT step by step builds (There are various step by step instructions for building all kinds of different nxt robots.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 1 (Tutorial 1 for the nxc programming language.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 2 (Tutorial 2 for the nxc programming language.)

Lego NXT robots using NXC tutorial – Part 3 (Tutorial 1 for the nxc programming language.)

May 19 – Lego Mindstorm Robot Wars Rules (Students are to read over these rules so they know the expectations for “battlebots”.  I told the students we would have a 1m by 1m square arena instead of a 1m in diameter circular arena.)

Lego Sumo Challenge (2012) (This is a YouTube video of a robot challenge from 2012 that the students can watch related to the third and final task “battlebots”.)

Battle Bot Arena (This is a picture of the arena I made for the students in class for “battlebots”.  Students MUST be ready by Wed June 1 to participate in the “battlebots” tournament.)

Battlebots Round Robin Schedule (This is the round robin schedule for the “battlebots” tournament scheduled for Wed June 1.)
